Mara Damiani's art transforms Hotel Domomea in Alghero

The artistic touch of Mara Damiani

Sardinia in every detail.

“The sun, the wind and the sea are what nourishes me. The scent of the Mediterranean scrub, the salty breeze, the colour of the sky and the nature of my land inspires me.” M. Damiani

Hotel Domomea’s unique and distinctive style is the result of an original project by a designer from Cagliari, Mara Damiani, who has transformed the interior design.
On entering Hotel Domomea, guests are immediately struck by the vivid colours of the prints which show from behind, three fascinating Rejnas from Gavoi, Samugheo and Oristano.

‘Le Rejnas’ represent Sardinian women wearing the traditional Sardinian costumes, whose style highlights the elegant lines and the harmony between the decorations, jewellery and the geometric shapes.
Every village, town and city in Sardinia has its own historic costumes which reflect the Mediterranean influences and the various cultures including the Spanish culture which over time have succeeded one another.

Beyond the entrance, opposite the lift, there is the ‘Rejna di Alghero’, a reconstruction, not linked to historical sources but which represents the city through the symbols of the sea, fishing and coral.

In the breakfast room, there are prints which represent ‘Su Kokku’- jewellery linked to protecting the individual and the house –characterised by the black obsidian stone and the coral and ‘il Rosario’ – traditional island jewellery- worn together with the traditional Sardinian costumes.
Other pictures in the room relate to the traditional Sardinian fabric and embroidery which you can find on the sofas in the lounge and in the cushions and runners in the bedrooms.

In the rooms at Domomea Mara Damiani’s artwork tells the story of the Sardinian women through their traditional costumes, the art of weaving, jewellery and traditional bread making.
Mara started from shapes, colours and traditional symbols of our island to create a common artistic thread, which is reflected in every detail: from the headboards of the beds to the prints on the walls and the materials and their tones.
The choice of colour is never random: turquoise recalls the sea, red symbolises life and passion, green represents nature, grey goes back to the hues of existence and black is the colour from which everything originates.

Her artwork has created a unique and harmonious atmosphere, which reflects the hotel’s authentic and refined essence and its strong connection to Sardinia.
